In a classic baseball oddity, the Dodgers beat the Angels without getting a single hit. Because of a recent, ridiculous, semantic rules change, the Angels are not actually credited with a no-hitter, they simply get a “loss without allowing a hit,” and the Dodgers get a “no hit win.” Only in baseball. Anyway, luckily for us, some fan caught the final out of this historic game, above.
The latest big story coming from the campaign trail is that Barack Obama has reneged on his promise to use Public financing for his campaign. What this means is that he is not subject to public limits on how much money he can take in and what he can do with it. In addition, with private money comes the fear of private interests.
That’s fine, but the media is trying to make this play as a flip flop on the order of “I did not have sex with that woman,” or “no new taxes,” which it just is not. It’s a strategic move which will probably have no effect on his ability to govern and does very little to impugn his integrity. Hopefully a real story will come along soon and bury this one. In the meantime, watch the clip and judge for yourself. Be sure to stay tuned for the classic New York Post’s “punderful” headlines in the middle, just about all that tabloid has ever been good for.
Comedy giant George Carlin died this week at the age of 71. He performed for his entire life and despite doing stand-up comedy in six different decades, remained hip and on the cutting edge to the very end. He once said that life is the ticket to a circus and we should all just enjoy the show for as long as it lasts. Here’s one of his classic routines: “football and baseball.” Rest in peace.
Scott McClellan, former White House Press Secretary and author of “What Happened,” an expose of the cover-ups and secrecy in the Bush Administration, is testifying before Congress about the Valerie Plame affair, where Scooter Libby and possibly others in the Bush Administration leaked the identity of an active CIA agent to Bob Novak, who then printed it openly. It is alleged that this “outing” was motivated by Plame’s husband, Joe Wilson’s report which contradicted the administration’s claims that they had reason to believe that weaponizable uranium was being provided for Iraq in Africa. Here’s part of McClellan’s first interview after the publication of the book, with Keith Olbermann.
Did this high school catcher pull his glove away to bean this Umpire on purpose? The Georgia college he wanted to try out for thought so and pulled their invitation for him to try out. You be the judge.
It’s Tiger, who, one stroke behind going into the 18th hole, forced a 19th sudden death hole and won it after Rocco Mediate hooked one into the crowd, helping Tiger collect his third U.S. Open and preventing Rocco from joining the likes of Buster Douglas, the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team and the 1969 New York Jets as improbable upset champions.
Here’s Tiger Woods, coming off a knee injury, sinking a 12 foot putt at Torey Pines to force an 18 hole playoff with unlikely spoiler Rocco Mediate in the 2008 U.S. Open. It’s a win-win. Either we have a great underdog story or Tiger proving why he truly is the greatest golfer of all time. Stay tuned.
