A magnitude 5.4 earthquake hit the southern California area on Tuesday, with a lot of ruffled feathers but no fatalities reported so far. Fear not, Santa Monica-based USeeThat? emerged unscathed, and will continue bringing you the hottest video clips and most up to date video news for well into the foreseeable future.
…not to take kickbacks, apparently, as proven by Republican Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, who was indicted by the Justice Department yesterday for a variety of charges related to receiving illegal gifts. It’s nice to know that politicians are never too old to be corrupt!
…you may be the only one. The movie has made over 312 million dollars in just one week (two weekends). Dark Knight is notable for remaining true to the darker, grittier perception of the Batman made popular during the “realism shift” of comic books in the mid ’80s, and for the performance of the late Heath Ledger as the Joker. Ledger turns in a quality performance, but that should not diminish strong performances also turned in by Aaron Eckhardt as Harvey Dent/Two Face, Maggie Gyllenhall as Rachel Dawes, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and of course, Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne and Batman (and give Bale credit for actually playing the two as different characters, something that prior Batmen, even Michael Keaton who I think turned in the second best Batman performance, were never really able to do).
Here’s some footage of the minor league baseball fight between the Peoria Chiefs and the Dayton Dragons in which 17 people were ejected. A few hit batsmen followed by a hard slide precipitated the melee. Watch as the mentally challenged Julio Castillo, pitcher for Peoria, hurls a baseball into the stands for no apparent reason, sending a fan to the hospital. Way to set an example for the kids, Julio!
Barack Obama continues his International tour with a momentous speech at the Tiergarten Park in Berlin. Will his unifying message be well-received, both in the country of Germany and our own? We’ll start to find out in about three months. Meanwhile, what exactly is John McCain doing while all this is going on? Planning strategy in a bit of a panic, no doubt. Still, never underestimate Republican resourcefulness. Obama and McCain have their first debate in Mississippi on September 26th.
It seems like the Christian Bale assault charge may prove to be little more than unwelcome publicity. Not only is Bale denying the assault, his mother and sister, the alleged victims, are denying reporting the assault. Bale is scheduled to return to London in September to face the charges although it wouldn’t surprise me if they were dismissed by then. Here are some MSNBC pundits looking over the issue.
In the final seconds of the WNBA game between the Detroit Shock and the LA Sparks, the Shock upheld a fine Detroit basketball tradition by getting involved in a massive brawl which resulted in three ejections and Cheryl Ford leaving in a wheelchair. Oh, and when the smoke cleared, the Sparks won 84-81.
Christian Bale is in the news today, allegedly out on bail after being arrested in London due to allegations of assault by his mother and sister. This is a very weird story. We’ve never heard of Bale being in any real trouble before, and his mom and sister don’t seem too distressed by the incident, having waited until AFTER the Batman premiere to even report it. Bale himself is denying the allegations. I think there’s a lot more to this story than meets the eye. We’ll have to see what develops.
Here’s former rookie driver of the year and GoDaddy model Danica Patrick and Venezuelan driver and former swimsuit model Milka Duno mixing it up after Patrick accused Duno of blocking her inappropriately during the race. It seems like Patrick was right and handled the situation well, although maybe Duno was just a little embarrassed. I don’t know, since I know nothing about auto racing. Maybe if they decide to settle it on the runway in Milan I’ll have a better perspective.
Jesse, Jesse, Jesse. Jesse Jackson stepped in it again this week when he referred to wanting to castrate Barack Obama for talking down to black people. To make matters worse, it turns out that in this same conversation he referred to the black community as “niggers.” In all fairness, he was off the air at the time and didn’t consider that shameless opportunist Bill O’Reilly would air the conversation later, but really, Jesse, I think some solidarity is called for in this crucial time in our nation’s history.
Besides, Jackson has it all wrong. Obama talks down to everybody.
