In what will go down as an all time classic in Tennis history, Rafael Nadal unseats his perennial rival Roger Federer as Wimbledon Champion in the longest match in Wimbledon Finals history at four hours and forty-eight minutes. More than 7 hours after the match began (due to rain delays), Nadal finally scored the Championship point to collect a 6-4,6-4,6-7,6-7,9-7 victory.
Once again, after five years, Venus and Serena Williams met at the Wimbledon Final. Although Serena usually comes out ahead in these Wimbledon Finals, this time Venus proved the better player. Serena came out of the gate strong, winning eight out of the first nine points, but Venus held fast and came back to collect a 7-5, 6-4 victory. Although the women go along with the idea that this is a win-win situation, Serena seemed visibly upset by the loss. Here are the ladies collecting their trophies.
P.S. Don’t feel too bad for Serena. She still got to pick up her Wimbledon Championship trophy as she and her sister continued to dominate the event in the Ladies Doubles Championship with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur.
